camp shirt: liesl’s liberty print

Hello everyone! I wanted to share another project I recently completed—a Camp Shirt I made for myself using a beautiful piece of Liberty lawn fabric. This particular fabric has been sitting in my stash for quite some time, and I finally decided it was time to put it to good use. The pattern I chose is called *Strawberry Thief*, which happens to be one of my all-time favorites from Liberty. The dark gray colorway feels versatile, and I think it'll pair beautifully with many outfits. With only a small amount of fabric available, I went ahead and created a Camp Shirt. The blouse turned out to be a great layering piece, adding some texture to my wardrobe. As you can see from the photos, the print is quite busy, so I didn't feel the need to add pockets. Still, I do love the functionality they provide, even if they’re not visible here. Now, why did I choose a Camp Shirt over a Classic Shirt? Soft, drapey fabrics like this Liberty lawn tend to work better with a convertible collar, especially when the neckline is left open. While this lawn fabric is sturdy enough to support a classic collar, the Camp Shirt design felt more fitting to me. I imagine wearing this shirt paired with a grandpa cardigan and some black-and-white herringbone trousers, along with my trusty jeans. Certain fabrics just seem to resonate with specific styles, and for this piece, the Camp Shirt seemed perfect. One fun detail I added was an inverted box pleat at the back. It’s such a subtle touch, but it adds a little flair to the overall look. Working with such limited fabric meant piecing together the facings, but it was worth it to create something unique. If you're interested in making your own Camp Shirt, the pattern is available both in paper format and digitally. I’m excited to see how others interpret this design! As always, let me know if you have any questions about the process or the fabric choices. I’d love to hear your thoughts! (And yes, I realize the ads below might feel a bit intrusive, but hey, we all have to keep the lights on!) I hope you enjoyed this little project update. Sewing always brings me joy, and sharing it with you makes it even better!
