There are different items for mens, the swim trunk and men board shorts. The swim trunk traditionally feature an elastic waist and a mesh lining inside the short, while men board shorts are typically longer in length and sport a drawstring waist. You can use board shorts for men instead of swim trunk, since they are designed for the same basic purpose. flat s celebrates sydney
Flat S absolutely adored Australia! Being such a clever little flat character, she decided to prolong her stay down under to avoid braving the chilly winter in the Northern Hemisphere. After thoroughly enjoying her time during the sheep shearing season, she traveled to Sydney, one of the country's biggest cities.
During her time in Sydney, Flat S stayed with Justine Jennings (better known as justmejay on Flickr) and her family. Here’s what Justine has to say about their delightful time together.
Flat S initially planned a quick stopover in Sydney after visiting a charming farm with Nicole. She arrived at the beginning of December, just as we were setting up our Christmas tree. The festive decorations, especially the handmade felt ones crafted by my mom, left Flat S eager to stay for Christmas. Naturally, we were thrilled to welcome her into our home for an authentic Australian Christmas celebration!
On Christmas Eve, we embarked on a special outing to the iconic Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge. It turned out to be extra special because we also met up with some dear friends from Oliver + S: Colette (known as colesworth on Flickr) and her daughter Freya. Despite the overcast weather, Sydney Harbour remained breathtakingly beautiful.
We explored not only the Opera House and the Bridge but also strolled around Circular Quay. The area around The Rocks, Sydney’s oldest colonial settlement, retained much of its original architecture and historical charm. We even visited Cadman’s Cottage, the oldest surviving building in Sydney. The city’s sandstone architecture, once a common building material, is now highly valued and quite pricey!
Christmas Day started early, as it always does at our house. The kids were up at 6:30 am, eagerly waiting to see if Santa had visited. Gift-opening became a whirlwind of torn wrapping paper and excitement.
Unfortunately, for the second year running, Christmas Day was gray and gloomy, with rain for most of the day. We had planned to enjoy our Christmas feast outdoors, but the weather forced us inside. Our family traditions include gathering with immediate family members, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Lunch is a formal affair, blending traditional dishes like roast pork with modern additions such as salads. Instead of a steaming hot Christmas pudding, I prepared an ice-cream pudding this year, featuring cherries, raspberries, and bits of Cherry Ripe.
Boxing Day is another cherished family tradition for us. We celebrate with my mother’s sisters and their families. Roast pork remains a staple, accompanied by cold meats, salads, and desserts like apple pie, lemon meringue pie, and trifle. Flat S had a fantastic time!
Sydney takes on a quieter vibe after Christmas, so we took the chance to unwind. The weather quickly returned to typical summer conditions, and Flat S took advantage of the sunny days with a couple of swims.
Rather than flying away for New Year’s Eve, Flat S decided to ring in the new year with us. Our New Year’s celebrations have become a beloved family tradition. For nearly 20 years, John and I, along with our close friends Deb and Gary, have gathered at Camp Cove in Watson’s Bay, overlooking the stunning Sydney Harbor. We begin our evening around 5 pm with a picnic dinner—cheeses, dips, mustard yogurt chicken, and fresh fruit for dessert. Over the years, our group has expanded from four to thirteen people (Deb and Gary have five children).
Camp Cove holds significance as the first landing spot in Sydney Harbor, and Flat S thoroughly enjoyed her afternoon there. However, the real highlight was undoubtedly the spectacular fireworks display!
We thoroughly enjoyed hosting Flat S, and we can’t wait to hear about her next adventure.
And we’re already looking forward to it too! Thank you, Justine, for giving Flat S such a wonderful experience in Sydney.
